CarboQuímica was founded with a clear vision: to contribute to the development of Colombia’s chemical industry through innovative, reliable, and sustainable solutions.
Over the years, we have continuously evolved, expanding our capabilities and diversifying our portfolio to meet the changing needs of the markets we serve. This commitment has enabled us to become a trusted partner for key industries across the region.
Today, CarboQuímica stands as a leading chemical company in the Americas, driven by the same entrepreneurial spirit, passion for innovation, and commitment to excellence that have defined us since our beginnings.
Our history begins in Sogamoso with the production of coal tar derivatives. Where others saw coal, we saw the starting point for building industry and a future in Colombia.
The Ministry of Economic Development awarded us the Bronze Medal for our contribution to export development. More than a recognition, it was confirmation that work well done transcends borders.
We inaugurated the industrial solvents plant with a capacity of 2,500 tons. Every new plant represents a commitment to employment, knowledge, and the industrialization of the country.
We expanded through a merger with Poliquímicos, strengthening our offering in thermal stabilizers for PVC. Growing together meant understanding that great solutions are born from integration.
We inaugurated unit #4, the largest in South America, with a capacity of 20,000 tons/year. Scaling our capacity was also about scaling our vision of regional impact.
We consolidated the CarboQuímica and Poliquímicos plants into a single production unit, optimizing resources. Integration was not just about efficiency; it was about building a solid base to compete in a global world.
We created the chemical distribution division as a new business unit. We understood that being closer to the customer is also a way to transform the industry.
We moved the main plant from Bogotá to Cartagena to strengthen national and international service. Moving strategically connected us globally and opened new opportunities for growth.
The Phthalic Anhydride plant was moved to Cartagena, unifying production and improving operational efficiency. Integrating operations means moving forward with greater strength and agility.
We launched the Innovation and Development Center in Funza, where we concentrate our capabilities to create new solutions. Innovation ceased to be an isolated process and became the engine that translates market needs into real value.
We began the path of diversification with the Life Science line and the sucrose esters plant, entering the personal care and agricultural sectors. Evolving meant taking our chemistry into new territories with an impact on daily life.
We launched the fumaric acid plant, transforming a byproduct of the phthalic anhydride process into a new industrial line with a capacity of 360 tons/year. This circular economy project reflects our commitment to environmental efficiency and sustainable innovation.
